(until October 10, 1995 – Uzhhorod School of Applied Arts named after A. Erdeli) is the successor of the Uzhhorod Public Drawing School, which operated from 1927 to 1945 under the leadership of Adalbert Erdeli. In 1946, after the reorganization of Transcarpathian Ukraine into the Transcarpathian region, the institution was renamed Uzhhorod Art School, later Uzhhorod School of Applied Arts, which in 1991 was given the name of Adalbert Erdeli.
From 1998 to 2004, the college offered two-level training (junior specialist – bachelor) under integrated curricula. In 2003, according to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated September 25, 2003, No. 657, and in fulfillment of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of June 15, 2003, No. 361-r “On the establishment of the Transcarpathian Art Institute,” Uzhhorod Art College named after A. Erdeli became part of the Transcarpathian Art Institute without legal entity status, while retaining its licensed capacity and state order for training specialists. Since then, it has been known as the Art College named after A. Erdeli of the Transcarpathian Academy of Arts.
The first director of the school was Adalbert Erdeli, and from 1947 – Ivan Harapko. Later, the institution was headed by: Pavlo Balla, Ivan Barnych, Yosyp Pal, Ivan Manailo, Ivan Kohutych, Borys Slyvka, Ivan Nebesnyk, Maryna Kiyak, Petro Petryshche, Odarka Sopko, Mariia Kopanska, Mar’yana Polyak. Today, the team is led by Artur Pavliuk.
The first teachers of professional disciplines at the school were People’s Artists: Yosyp Bokshay, Fedir Manailo, Ivan Harapko, Ernest Kontratovych, Vasyl Svyda, Andrii Kotska. Well-known regional artists were also involved in the teaching process: Vilmos Berecz, Adalbert Boretskyi, Shandor Petki, and others.
Graduates of the institution include now-renowned artists, People’s Artists, Laureates of the National Taras Shevchenko Prize: Volodymyr Mykyta, Yurii Hertz, Vasyl Sidak; People’s Artists: Ivan Ilko, Vasyl Habda, Ivan Shutev, Viacheslav Prykhodko, Mykhailo Romanyshyn, Ivan Brovdi, Taras Danylych, Vasyl Svaliavchyk; Honored Artists: Mykola Medvetskyi, Zoltan Sholtes, Edita Medvetska (Lutak), Petro Feldeshi, Mahdalyna Puhlyk-Belen, Nataliia Sima-Pavlyshyn, Vasyl Betsa, Viacheslav Habda, Ivan Didyk, Anton Kovach, as well as well-known artists: Semen Malchytskyi, Yulii Stashko, Pavlo Bedzir, Pavlo Balla, Laszlo Balla, Yelyzaveta Kremnytska, Nataliia Hertz, and many others. Today, most members of the Transcarpathian Regional Branch of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine are graduates of the college (school) of different years. Current university lecturers across Ukraine – professors and PhDs – are also graduates of this institution, including: Prof. Roman Vasylyk (LNAM), Doctor of Art Studies Mykhailo Pryimych, Candidates of Art Studies, Associate Professors – Ivan Nebesnyk, Atila Kopyryva, Odarka Sopko, Roman Pylyp, Lesia Polikha, Ihor Lutsenko; Candidates of Pedagogical Sciences – Alina Voloshchuk, Yurii Ivanio, among others.
Currently, 235 students study at the college in courses I–IV. The educational process is provided by 35 full-time teachers, including laureates of the Regional Prize named after Y. Bokshay and A. Erdeli, Honored Artists of Ukraine, Honored Workers of Education, Candidates of Sciences, methodologist teachers, and teachers of the highest category.
