The primary goal set by the academic staff of the Department is to provide future artists with the necessary breadth of socio-humanitarian knowledge required in modern conditions, to develop systematic thinking and communication skills, while actively engaging with national and cultural traditions.
The Department offers instruction in disciplines such as “Art History,” “History of Art Education in Zakarpattia,” “History of Ukraine,” “Pedagogy,” “Psychology,” “Cultural Studies,” “Aesthetics,” “Ethnopsychology,” “Economic Theory,” “Ukrainian Language,” “English Language,” “Philosophy,” “Copyright Law,” “Religious Studies,” “Sociology and Political Science,” “Methods of Teaching Specialized Disciplines,” “Methods of Teaching Fine Arts,” and others.
The region has more than twenty-five schools of aesthetic education and art schools, along with numerous studios, creating favorable conditions for training future painting instructors. The preparation of students, future teachers of fine arts in general and specialized educational institutions, is carried out through the study of specialized courses such as “Methods of Teaching Fine Arts,” “School Age Psychology,” “Pedagogy,” and through teaching practice in regional schools.
The Department’s academic staff continuously updates the scientific and methodological support of courses, integrates multimedia tools and electronic teaching materials, and implements new teaching methods considering the capabilities of modern information technologies.
Faculty members help students understand essential philosophical and cultural issues in the context of past and contemporary social and cultural life, fostering independent thinking based on the achievements of national and global culture. The Department regularly organizes meetings with prominent artists and art scholars, leading cultural and museum figures, historians, and ethnologists.
The Department is actively engaged in research. It serves as the base for the annual International Scientific and Practical Conference “Erdely Readings,” the proceedings of which have been published since 2008 in the “Bulletin of the Zakarpattia Academy of Arts.” The Department also pays significant attention to student research, reviewing their findings during internal defenses and at numerous inter-university and national conferences.
